Frequently Asked Questions

Do spaces count as characters?

Yes, standard character counts include spaces. However, we also provide a 'Characters (no spaces)' metric so you can see exactly how many letters, numbers, and punctuation marks you have.

What is the SMS character limit?

A single SMS message is limited to 160 characters. Longer messages are split into multi-part messages of 153 characters each. Our tool calculates how many SMS parts your text will occupy.

How is the byte size calculated?

Our tool converts your text using UTF-8 encoding. Standard ASCII characters (English alphabet, numbers) count as 1 byte. Emojis and non-English characters can take 2 to 4 bytes each.

Does this counter support emojis?

Yes. Standard JavaScript counts some emojis as two characters (surrogate pairs), but our Unicode character counter counts them correctly as a single visual character (grapheme).

What is the character limit for LinkedIn posts?

LinkedIn posts have a limit of 3,000 characters. Our LinkedIn meter shows you exactly how much space is left before you hit that limit.
